Part 2: Why Shoulder Bolts are Too Important to Ignore : Plastics Technology

Let’s start off by clarifying two frequently misused names given to shoulder bolts. If the function of a shoulder bolt is to limit the distance a plate or any mold component travels, it is referred to as a range bolt. In addition to limiting travel, range bolts also serve as a safety feature. They ensure a floating plate won’t slide off its guide pins or leader pins during mold assembly, disassembly, or maintenance within the molding machine. Range bolts are almost always used in three-plate molds to control the distance that the “X” or “X-1” plate travels when stripping the runner off the sucker pins. They are also used in stripper-plate molds for the same purpose—to limit the distance the stripper plate travels when ejecting a part. Figure 1 depicts a typical installation of a range bolt. If the function of a shoulder bolt is to pull a plate or any mold component, then it is called either a stripper bolt, or a puller bolt. Since there is an exception to every rule, sometimes a shoulder bolt has a dual function, where it can be both a range bolt and a stripper bolt. A common example of this is in three-plate molds, where a shoulder bolt is located between the X-1 plate and the ...

Its greatest feats are flippable eggs and its delicate treatment of fish. There’s also the simple fact that all non-stick pans have an expiration date, whether it’s advertised or not (the closest you’ll get is a warranty duration). This is because — through heating, cooling, flipping, scratches and cleaning — all non-stick pans eventually shed their precious non-stick coating, making them completely worthless to cook on. Microbial communities associated with animals exert powerful influences on host physiology, regulating metabolism and immune function,

Microbial communities associated with animals exert powerful influences on host physiology, regulating metabolism and immune function, as well as complex host behaviors. The importance of host–microbiome interactions for maintaining homeostasis and promoting health raises evolutionarily complicated questions about how animals and their microbiomes have coevolved, and how these relationships affect the ways that animals interact with their environment. Here, we review the literature on the contributions of host factors to microbial community structure and corresponding influences of microbiomes on emergent host phenotypes. We focus in particular on animal behaviors as a basis for understanding potential roles for the microbiome in shaping host neurobiology. What more can live production do to reduce Salmonella in poultry?

Successful Salmonella control throughout live poultry production requires an integrated effort, attention to detail and careful follow-through to help processing plants meet more stringent USDA standards, said poultry health experts at a recent food-safety news conference. “Everyone in live production has to be on board because a slip-up in one area can wreck all the time and effort put into the rest of the plan,” said Don Waldrip, DVM, senior technical services veterinarian, Zoetis. Charles Hofacre, DVM, PhD, president of the Southern Poultry Research Group Inc., Athens, Georgia, advised starting with clean broiler breeders because hens can vertically pass Salmonella on to their broiler progeny. “Make sure you know your pullet source and make sure there isn’t a mouse or darkling beetle infestation. I’ve worked with pullet farms where we’ve had to completely tear out sidewalls and insulation to get rid of beetles to get control of Salmonella,” he said. Vaccination of breeders, broilers or both can help lower the load of Salmonella going into the processing plant and is especially worth considering for companies with plants in Category 3, both veterinarians said. However, they ca...

Body cameras “significantly reduce” aggression on NHS mental health wards

Please check our Verdict Privacy Policy to see how we protect and manage your submitted data. All mental health workers for the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) claim to experience incidents of verbal or physical aggression at least once a week, and NHS staff surveys show that these incidents are increasing – a recent survey found that 15% of NHS workers have experienced violence in the past 12 months, which was the highest recorded figure in the past five years. However, recent trials of body-worn cameras have shown that the technology can “significantly reduce” the severity of these incidents occurring, helping NHS workers to feel safer while on the job. The latest study, conducted independently by the West London Trust (WLT), saw nursing staff across seven mental health wards in West London provided with 50 cameras to wear during working hours over a four month period. The study concluded that while the use of body worn cameras didn’t lead to a significant reduction in the number of incidents, it did help to...

Battlestar Galactica: Battlestar Galactica: Our Extended Recap of “Revelations”

[See that scroll bar over there? See how long it is? Yeah, this baby's a long one. You've been warned!] The stage was set – the mood around the Frak Party this past Friday eve was of a palpable, barely suppressed jubilee. You might think it was the single-malt whiskey being passed around (thanks to all of RDM’s podcast suggestions), but our joy was not one you could find in a bottle. Having been witness to season-ending plot-twists the likes of which had us jumping up, clutching our heads, and yelling, “Holy Frak!” – we could only stand around and guess at what Ron Moore and company had in store for us this go round, especially with the series ender looming in the far-distance. But you could bet, between the sips of whiskey and the chain drags of the Baltar-sized cigars, that we had smiles on our faces as we analyzed every plot strand and wondered at the fate of our favorite characters on television. The crystal-clear night under the stars, with the BSG soundtrack blaring in the background, seemed ripe for grand revelations indeed. And boy did our beloved writers, actors, and directors ever deliver on the promises that had been developing over the c...

Specimen Containers market Size, Share, Growth, Trends,Forecast 2025

Specimen containers are used to contain biological samples such as urine, or sputum, either as storage, or during transit. They are of importance to healthcare and medical facilities, as it is considered of paramount importance, to avoid contamination of specimen. They help keep the specimens sterile for accurate test results. Specimen containers are therefore preferred, and a must have, for any healthcare facility, or laboratory. The global specimen container outlook therefore looks promising. Some of the factors that increase preference for specimen containers are – Convenience – They are available with printed labels, with information of the sample type and patient. It helps prevent misplacement of sample. Some of them are also available with printed surfaces, with measurement scale for volume. In addition to these factors, increase in the healthcare industry growth also increases demand for safe and sterile measures for handling specimens to maintain quality healthcare services. WATCH: UGA’s fancy new LED lights make Sanford Stadium look like a rock concert

UGA showed off its brand-new LED system on social media on Friday night, on the eve of the UGA-Notre Dame showdown. The state-of-the-art lights made Sanford Stadium look more like a WWE wrestling event than hallowed football grounds. That was meant to be a compliment. If you’re not a wrestling fan, then think of an electronic fireworks show. Or a rock concert. If you’re a Braves fan, then you’ve seen a similar LED lighting system at SunTrust Park. But UGA’s new toy seems to be much bigger and brighter. It could be all that sizzling red color that the Bulldog fans love. UGA-Notre Dame will be one of the most electrifying environments in school history with a record attendance for the game. If Bulldog officials unleash the lighting system to full capacity like in the video at the right moment in the game, there could also be a record noise level in Athens with the roaring approval of fans. Here’s what UGA athletics director Greg McGarity told DawgNation’s Mike Griffith about the new LEDs: 100w Rechargeable Led Flood Light “We actually were at the end of the life cycle for our other lights, so we went ahead and made an investment into LED lights, which you’ve seen at SunTrust Park....

Making Kids’ Books From Construction Sites | Chicago magazine

Your first book, Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site, was on the New York Times bestseller list for nearly five years. How did you get the idea for it? My little guy was born truck-obsessed. When it was time for him to settle in at night, he always picked truck books. But instead of being soothed to sleep, he got really wound up. So after we closed the books, we’d imagine a construction site going to sleep. I’d say, “I think I can see a dump truck dumping out its last load of the day. He’s putting up his gate and turning off his lights.” One night I was putting my own head on the pillow, and I thought, Oh my gosh, this might be a book. Your new one, Three Cheers for Kid McGear!, is your fourth in the series but the first with a female protagonist — a skid steer. When my first book came out, I’d see fields and fields of 4-year-old boys at events. But now it’s pretty mixed. I’m excited to offer those little truck-loving girls something. I have a friend who owns a ready-mix concrete plant, so I consult with her a lot. Once I called in the middle of a workday and said, “I have some questions about what trucks might want for Christmas.” And she was like, “Sherri, I’m going to nee...
